Day one, we finally got packed up and we're rolling out, and after resolving a few mechanical issues, we headed north to our first destination. I stopped to adjust the babies when I noticed splashing off to the left of the bike path. I pointed it out, and Dave, in Dave-like fashion, went down the hill to investigate. There were what looked like several light-colored fish splashing around in the flooded areas between the river and the bike path. The current consensus is that they were gar, but the pictures I looked up don't seem to match. Whatever they were, they were massive, and Dave was intent on catching one with his bare hands. I have to admit, it would have been quite impressive, but it was taking too long, so we gave up and moved on. It's an interesting goal to hang onto in case we ever wind up in shallow flood waters again.
